| A Visit To Dr. Corporation |
|||||
| Not all Doctors are the same. When you visit a private practice doc he will try to give you the best care possible. If you don't like his care you will go somewhere and he will eventually go out of business. Not so with Dr. CORPORATION. Lets say he does less than quality care with you and you wind up in the emergency room. Well chances are the Corporation owns the emergency room and the hospital. In a sense they are rewarded no matter what type of care you are given. Lets say your doctor sends you for an inordinate amount of tests or x-rays. Again more medicine is not necessarily good medicine but its a good bet that the corporation owns the Laboratory and the Radiology Department. In fact many specialists are now owned by corporations so the Orthopedic Surgeons you get sent to for a new hip or knee is also a corporate employee. This drastically changes the economics of your medical visit. When you visit a private practice doc you are paying for the nurse the phone bill and maybe the rent. When you visit DR. CORPORATION there is much more to be paid for. You now have administrators, human resource departments ,computer departments and new equipment. You have to pay for the inefficiencies of a large organization. You pay for the uncollected bills (most organizations collect less than 50% of their owed money). You can see that DR CORPORATION has a lot more on his mind than your symptoms. In fact his main job is now production not health care. In order to be as efficient as possible DR CORPORATION is forbidden to care for his patients in the hospital. Ask your doctor the last time he worked in a hospital. For many its been longer than 10 years. If you don't work with the sickest patients you begin to lose your skills. Imagine taking your car to a mechanic who only did the easiest of repairs. Wouldn't you be afraid he was missing something important. DR CORPORATION only sees the easiest of patients and because of his high overhead he only has a few minutes in which to see them. Sure DR CORPORATION may be convenient and he even may be a nice person. So are the people at MCDONALDS. But would you want them in charge of your Health? |
